Peter Wright wins First Red Dragon Harlow Open

Lowestoft player Peter Wright emerged a 5-2 victor in the men's singles, holding back an impressive effort from Steve Smith who looked in contention at 2-2. Wright (last 16 2011 PDC World Championships) drew on his pro tour experience to break away and take the win with a 29.32 one dart average, two maximums and out shots of 150 and 136.

The men's competition attracted a strong field of 95 hopefuls, whilst 13 battled it out in the women's event.

The ladies event was won (for the second time in a row) by Tara Deamer who defeated Susan Baker.

The event was superb as it attracted a wide range of dart players across all ages and ability in both fields.

Previous winners of this particular event include Steve Maish (twice), Clive Barden, Adrian Gray, Jamie Robinson and Darren Webster.

Whitlock to the DOGS - 12/02/2011

Last Saturday saw Simon Whitlock literally go to the dogs, The Harlow Dogs that is as he attended his sponsors Harlow Stadium fundraising race night for the Harlow retired greyhounds.

With over 450 people in attendance at the evening, all enjoyed some fantastic darts and racing as he mingled with fellow punters and he even managed to win a few quid.

After the evenings racing Simon took on 5 worthy challengers in the Harlow Dog Track Challenge who were selected in a blind bid auction at the end of the evening.

Thankfully Simon's dart haven't gone to the dogs as he won all five games, in what was a fantastic display and experience for all the racers.

Simon said "Harlow Racetrack have been behind me right from the very start of my switch over to the PDC, and its a pleasure to come back here and have a great night with them, and win a few quid on the dogs whilst playing darts".

Football match raises £1,000 for children's charities - 25/07/2010

A celebrity football match held in Harlow during the summer raised £1,000 for children's charities.

Jeff Brazier with a cheque for A team of celebrities including television presenter Jeff Brazier took on Harlow Police FC at Harlow Greyhound Stadium in July, raising cash for child victioms of crime and the Variety Club's children's charities in the process.

Although the boys in blue started the game as underdogs, they eventually won the match 5-4.

Harlow Police FC captain Stuart Burt said: "This is a wonderful end to a great day out. I would like to thank everyone for coming along and supporting the teams and in particular a massive thanks to the celebrities for giving us a challenging game and staying after to sign autographs and have photos taken with supporters."

Celebrity team captain, actor and producer Simon Cummins, said: "We were very glad to be a part of this worthwhile event and despite losing, were very thrilled at the prospect of a rematch next year. The real winners were the children's charities."
